Students in grades 3 through 5 are eligible to tryout and participate in this group. These students perform at liturgies, special events, and concerts. Young Rembrandts
The Young Rembrandts is an afterschool drawing class for children. It teaches children how to draw using an engaging method that all children can succeed with. We learn about drawing and art while developing academic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills.
Government
Student Council
The purpose of the Student Council is to give students, elected by their peers, the opportunity and responsibility to exercise their leadership ability, to share in decision making, and to formally express the opinions of the student body in matters of general school interest.
To qualify as a candidate for a Student Council office, a fifth grade student must have a "B" average in the seven content areas with no report card grade less than a C in the last three quarters of the seventh grade. Homeroom representatives from grade 5 must have no grade less than a "C" for the last three quarters of the previous year to be a candidate. If elected the student must maintain the academic requirements of their specific office. In addition, officers and representatives are not allowed to have negative behavioral comments on their report card. Being a member of the Student Council is a privilege. Conduct unbecoming a student council member, or a violation of the Santa Maria del Popolo codes and policies could result in permanent removal from the council.
Student Safety Patrol
The purpose of the Student Safety Patrol is to assist in the safety of students. The students who serve on the Safety Patrol are giving their own time and are fulfilling a position of service for fellow students. All students must respect the Safety Patrol.
Athletic Association
Santa Maria del popolo School Athletic Association provides a program of basketball, volleyball, track and field, and cross-country running for boys and girls. All teams participate in established leagues or conferences in the areas.
Representing Santa Maria in athletics is a privilege and responsibility. To retain this privilege, students must abide by the principles of mutual respect and cooperation outlined in the Discipline Code and adhere to the Athletic Eligibility Code. The student and his/her parent/guardian must sign a Code of Conduct contract. After being approved, the athlete must continue to perform satisfactorily in the area of behavior, attitude, and academic effort, or she/he will be suspended from the team. Participation in a sport requires parental permission and evidence of insurance, either school or family.
Parents volunteer their time at home games by servigin as monitors and admissions attendants. At the beginning of the school year, the Athletic Association will send information to families regarding the sports programs.
Scholastic Clubs
Chess Club
Santa Maria del Popolo offers children the fun and interesting experience of chess.
Scouting
Boy Scouts
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to
make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in
them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. It is "Fun with a
Purpose", and Santa Maria del Popolo's Cub Scout Pack 295 welcomes
boys in 1st through 5th grades. The boys are organized into Dens,
consisting of 4 to 8 boys in the same grade, where they meet 2 to 3
times a month. Each Den is led by a parent, and our leaders are very
dedicated to making scouting a fun, educational, and rewarding
experience for your son and your family. Our pack stresses qualities
such as respect, honesty, and camaraderie. While our focus is on
providing a fulfilling scouting experience for our boys, we encourage
family participation, and welcome families at all our Pack events.
Some of our upcoming events for the fall and winter include: Water
Day, the Firestation Open House, the Fishing Derby, Devil's Lake Camp
Out, Boo Camp at Halloween, and collecting presents for the Marine's
Toys for Tots program.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts at Santa Maria del Popolo school is a way for girls to connect outside of the classroom. We currently have 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade troops. Most meetings are held on campus with off-site fun activities planned per individual troop. Girls will focus on developing their fullest potential in their everyday life skills. They will learn to relate to others with understanding and respect. They will also develop a meaningful set of values to provide the foundation for sound decision-making. We aim to contribute to the improvement of society with focus on leadership skills. Please contact Robin Gonzalez through the SMdP school office for more details.
