As we enter the 75th anniversary of the Santa Maria del Popolo parish and the 60th anniversary of the Santa Maria del Popolo school, please look for upcoming activities sponsored by the school and Parish. Parent Organizations

Family Association

The Family Association is an organization that promotes family involvement in the school. Some of the functions the association sponsors are: Fun Fair, the Christmas Bazaar, and the Skating Party. They also publish the student directory, sponsor the teacher appreciation brunch and lunch, and coordinate the Room Parent Program. These multiple and varied activities offer something for everyone. Getting involved in the school community and volunteering to work with the Family Association is a great way to meet other school families.

Athletic Association

The Santa Maria del Popolo School Athletic Association provides a program of team and individual sports. All teams participate in established leagues or conferences in the area. The Athletic Association raises the necessary funds to cover gym rental fees, uniform and equipment replacement and league fees. Parent(s)/guardian(s) also volunteer their time at home games by serving as monitors and admission attendants. At the beginning of the school year, the Athletic Association will send information to families regarding the sports program. The Athletic Association is responsible for establishing guidelines for the students and coaches participating in sports.

Our Mission: Fathers bringing positive energy to help SMdP School and our children. How do we do it?

Annual Events

Santa Maria del Popolo has several opportunities for families to become involved in growing our school community. Annual events and ongoing events are listed below.   • Football Mania (August to October): This is a parish fundraiser. Purchase a ticket for $20 from rectory. You are entered into the NFL football pool with 6 prizes each week and 2 grand prizes. Each ticket has a 1 in 48 chance of winning. Go to www.Charitymania.com for further information. SMDP earns $14.00 from each ticket sold. Tickets can be purchased starting in August through October.
  • Entertainment Book (August to November): Savings book for travel, rental car, hotels, restaurants, shopping, etc. These make great gifts! Use your card in combination with Scrip Gift Certificates for a double donation to SMDP. Only $20 each. Sold after mass or call SMdP desk for more information.
  • Fun Fair (October): A fun family event with carnival games, prizes, food, cake walk! Little ones are also invited! Contact the Family Association for more information. Voucher hours may be earned.
  • Fistfull of Dollars Dinner Dance (November): Your attendance is requested at SMdP’s largest fundraiser and party of the year! Dinner, dancing, music, fabulous live auction, terrific gift items, and a great opportunity to be with friends or meet new ones. Contact the SMdP School Board for more information. Voucher hours may be earned.
  • Holiday Bazaar (December): Last year over 25 crafters came together in the Parish Center for this festive event. Christmas shop for a wide selection of unique handcrafted items. This is one show you won’t want to miss! Contact the Family Association for more details.
  • Book Fair (January): This is a great chance to help the schools literacy program while working directly with the children. The school earns credit for books/merchandise based on the percentage of sales. Contact the Family Association for more details. Voucher hours may be earned.
  • Casino Nights (February): This is a two night event. This is a community invited event but adults only. Las Vegas style casino action. Real money and table games! Great food, drink and fun…bring your friends. Voucher hours may be earned.
  • Progressive Dinner (Spring): This fun “travel-dining” extravaganza is open to all parents/friends. Diners travel to different homes for appetizers, dinner, dessert and raffle. The money raised from this event is used for teacher bonuses. Contact the Family Association for more details.
  • Track-a-thon (Spring): All SMDP students have sponsors pledge an amount per lap or make a donation. The more laps they run the more money they make. Contact the SMdP School Board for more details. Voucher hours may be earned.

Ongoing Activities

  • Paper Retriever Paper Recycling - Santa Maria del Popolo needs your help to support our environment. Don't forget about the recycling program - large recycle bins are located in the parking lot.
  • Target Red Card: Shop here and sign up for their credit card, SMDP receives 1% of the sales. So far, 192 target credit card holders have designated our school! Good all year round.
  • QSP Magazines: You can wait for the school fundraiser or order online. New/renewal magazine subscriptions, go to QSP and use this #425015785. Our school receives 40%. Call Kevin Kristan or Kevin Happ for more details. Orders can be placed online at anytime. (Voucher hours can be earned.)
  • Box Tops for Education: Cut labels from qualifying products and send box tops to the school office. Earn 10 cents per label. For more information visit www.boxtops4education.com.
  • Bingo: Bring your friends. Real cash! You could be a winner! This is a parish/community fundraiser! You must be 18 or older to play. Call the rectory at 847-949-8300 for further details. Held on Mondays starting at 6:00 in the Parish Center. (Voucher hours can be earned.)
  • Campbell’s Soup Labels for Education: Clip proof of purchase from favorite Campbell products and send to the school office. Check website for info at www.labelsforeducation.com.
